Path: | Turkey / Adana | Description: | The Arch Bridge was built in Roman times in 2th century AD. It spans the Seyhan River and is one of the symbols of Adana. The bridge was a important contribution to the trade routes throughout ancient Anatolia and Persia.
Since it sits in an earthquake area, the Arch Bridge has been repaired many times over the centuries: in 560 by Justinian, in 742 under the caliph al-Walid II, in 840 under the caliph al-Mutasim. Today, only 14 of the original 21 arches remain. |
