Kolomna
The first time the name Kolomna is mentioned in 'Lavrent'ev's chronicles' in 1177. At that time it was a little town in Ryazan principality. As many other towns of Eastern Rus Kolomna was destroyed a few times by Tatars. When Dmitry Donskoy defeated the Tatars in Kulikov's battle in 1380 Kolomna joined Moscow's principlity.
Russia's king Vasily the Third in 1530 ordered to built there a kremlin - a strong stone fortress round the town. During the Russian-Polish war in 1605-08 the kremlin in Kolomna delayed the movement of Polish armies towards the east.
Since the 17th century Kolomna lived in peace and the city began to slowly develop. In 1862 the railroad was built there and this led to the development of industry. Many factories and manufactures, schools and temples were built after this.
After the great October revolution in 1917 Bolshevics destroyed many beautiful buildings in Kolomna: temples, monasteries and palaces were robbed and destroyed. During the Soviet era Kolomna was known as a big industrial place only.
In our days the situation changed completely. Russian authorities realised the great historical importance of Kolomna. Since 1990 they quickly repair the ruins of cultural and historical places in the city. Many temples and monasteries are already repaired and beautiful places inside the kremlin are already decorated.
