Path: | Russia / Kolomna | Description: | Nikola Gostiny church was built in 1501 for visiting merchants. Patriarch Macary of Antioch worked here in 1655. In 1848 the church was completely rebuilt: the belltower (which on the photo is on the left side of the entrance) was erected, as were two side chapels.
After the October revolution the church of Nikola Gostiny was desecrated: the bell tower was blown up, the side chapels were demolished and the murals painted over. In 1930 a sports school was housed in the church.
Nikola Gostiny church was partly reconstructed in 1922, but unfortunately only a small building from the ancient and beautiful church in Kolomna remains. |
