El Gouna - one of the newest resorts of Egypt - was built in 1991. Because of its many man-made canals El Gouna Egypt became known informally as Venice.
To get around the town tourists use boats. Most of the buildings in El Gouna are hotels, entertainment and shopping establishments. One of the places of pride in the city is a great golf club, considered to be the most sophisticated in Egypt.
