Belarus

Belarus - a country in Eastern Europe which until 1991 was called the Soviet Socialist Republic of Belarus. The name comes from old Russian meaning 'White' or 'Free' - from Yokes of Oppression.

It shares a borader with Russia in the east, Lithuania and Latvia in the north, Poland in the west and Ukraine in the south.

Belarus call the country of lakes, of which there are about 11 thousand. Most of them are situated in the north and northwest. Forest covers about 40% of the country. The country's most well known and densest forests are: Byelovezskaya and Nalybokskaya.
Shape basically flat.

Official languages: Belarusian, Russian.
